Blog I, Summer: Thinking about the Future

Welcome to the first blog for the summer of 2019.   This blog anticipates the resume and cover letter assignment next week.  For this blog, think about your future after college.  What profession are hoping to invest in for your future? What are your salary expectations and are there enough opportunities to keep you feeling fulfilled going to work each day.   So, for this first blog, answer these questions with a minimum of two detailed paragraphs.

1.  Discuss your career aspirations after college (Now, nothing is written in stone; you may end up doing something different than what your write here; however, it's a good idea to start thinking about your potential now)


2.  What education or certifications will you need for this job?  How many years of school do you need?


3.  What are your salary expectations for this career?  Will it be enough to satisfy your needs?


Again, this blog should be at least two fully developed paragraphs.  Let me know if you have any questions.

For this blog, propose a website you would design, thinking about what we have learned designing websites in class.   As you propose a write-up of your website, please answer the following questions:

(1)What is your website about? What is its purpose?  Who are the different readers (primary, secondary, and tertiary).

(2) Does your website contain any of the social contexts----(PEPE).

(3) Summarize what your website would look like?  For example, you could talk about the home page or the content found on the other pages.

This should be at least two paragraphs.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Blog II, Spring 2019: Career Choices

 Career Choice.

For this blog, you will write a two paragraph response involving your career choice after college.  I realize that some of you have not given this thought since you are now beginning your journey; however, time will pass you, and it would be a good idea to reassess your options and your expectations.  Please answer these three questions regarding your career:

1.  What do you want you to do once you leave college and what are your career expectations?


2.  How much money will your chosen career pay and do you consider that enough to fit your lifestyle?


3.  What qualifications does your chosen job require?  How many years of schooling will you need to accomplish your career goal?

Like the previous blog, two well-developed paragraphs with connective transitions will be an adequate response for this blog.   Truthfully, this is an important reflection because you are here to find an occupation that suits you.   In the end, you may have several avenues; however, it is up to you to find that career.   To quote comedian Chris Rock, " You know, some people say life is short and you could get hit by a bus at any moment and that you have to live each day like it's your last.  Bullshit. Life is long.  You're probably not gonna get hit by a bus.  And you're gonna have to live with the choices you make for the next 50 years."  Considering this quote, it's important to start making good choices now.

Blog I: Spring 2019 (For M&W and T&R Classes)

For this blog post, please read this article by Professor Portwood-Stacer entitled, "How to Email Your Professor (without being annoying AF) Article Link and answer the following questions in connection with the discussions we have had on technical writing and emails:

1.  Name the primary, secondary, and tertiary readers of this document.

2.  What type of action does the author expect students to take in this document?  Also, are these, in your opinion, reasonable requests?

3.  Does this article contain any legal, ethical, or political dimensions?  If so, please explain this in your blog.

For a successful blog, aim for two paragraphs on this article.   It would be easiest to frame this as a reaction to the author's ideas and using the terms of art to analyze it as a technical document.  Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
