Blog III: Summer 2021

Blog II: Spring

We discussed the dangers of social media in class.  Please look at the following website discussing state social media privacy laws: NSCL.org.   So far, 26 states have laws regarding privacy for social media accounts for employers; 16 of those states have laws regarding educational institutions.   Florida maintains no such protections for employees.  In 2016, the Florida Senate attempted SB-186, a law protecting employees from employers and schools invading online privacy.   SB-186 died in the Judiciary on 3/11/2016. According to a Florida employment law firm, employers can fire applicants based on social media posts.   For this blog post draft legal language that protects employees from having their privacy invaded by schools and employers.

The first paragraph should be the law.  The second paragraph should discuss how this law protects employees.   If you want to play devil’s advocate, then write two paragraphs on why employers and institutions should have the right to use social media content for vetting purposes.
