The American-Beta-He-Man:
Hot Chocolate, Plaid Jammies, and Retro-Fitted
Glasses
Unless you have been living under a rock or a beer tap since
2010, you know that healthcare in this country has recently changed. Like all programs, "change" is not
enough without advertising. Throughout history, advertisements helped spread
movements and reflected national history.
Although it might seem like a loose connection, technical writers fall under
the same political and ethical guidelines as advertisers. Not only are technical writers responsible
for describing intricate designs of products, they also play a hand in
marketing.
The current Administration is attempting to tap into hipness
of the millennial psyche. Doing this successfully requires a solid
understanding of the current generation's needs, values, and attitudes. No doubt the most creative minds labored over
the right image for the young, savvy consumers of today. Millions of dollars and many stiff hot
chocolates later, they came up with "Pajama Boy"—er—"Man."
Coinciding with Chapter 2, take a look at the ad and answer
these questions regarding primary readers only:
(1)What are the needs of the readers of this ad?
(2)What are the values of the readers this ad is targeting?
(3)What are the attitudes of the ad's target audience?
(4)Do you think this ad successfully considered the needs,
values, and attitudes of its intended primary readers?
Your response should be at least a paragraph and a half. I wish you the best of luck on your first
blog post.

ReplyDelete1) The needs of the readers of this ad are health insurance ,good benefits, and good coverage. The picture above shows the impact that focusing on readers needs can have on ad performance.
ReplyDelete2) The values of the readers that this ad is targeting are solidarity , safety ,and quality.
3) The attitude of the ad's has varying( affect, behavior , cognition) attitudes in acceptance od healthcare insurance because they interested to learn more about this new health insurance in this country.
4) Advertising plays in important role in our culture by identifying and correlating our values to products. In my opinion this ad is succefully in favor of our needs , values, and attitudes to them because many people used to live without health insurance had hard time taking care specially when they go to emergency room , they just give them a pain killer and go home . They couldn't afford to pay a private sector health insurance .Now this new health insurance gives the consumers more rights, more benefits, and more protections in regards to their healthcare.
The needs of the readers of this ad is seeking health insurance in order to not get a fine on their taxes. Many Americans do not have health insurance because it is extremely expensive and they rather instead just pay a one time fee. The values of the readers this ad is targeting is not exactly what pajama boy is implementing. Our current generation are not calm hot cocoa drinkers instead they are more of a going out and having fun generation. Everybody who has seen this ad knows pajama boy does not represent our current generation because nobody wears "onesies" these days unless you are a child. I think this ad is a joke because it is the complete opposite of our current young generation. The sense of style of this ad is out of date and makes this ad seem like a joke. This ad is trying to help those who have not applied for any health insurance but if they would have really considered our current generations values and attitudes these ads would be all over the media.
ReplyDelete1) The needs of the readers of this ad are health insurance and to make sure that every young adult has medical insurance. This ad also wants to make sure you take action upon yourself by going out and getting your own medical insurance.
ReplyDelete2)The values are a carefree millennial who are text-savvy and can multi -task from their home.
3)The attitude of this ad is a little misguiding because why would a young male adult be wearing a onesie pajamas and holding the cup awkwardly.Realistically how many young adults teenagers do you see wearing those kind of pajamas especially young male adults.
4)No,not at all does this ad relate to getting medical insurance.I just don't think that a young adult wearing pajamas and drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows will sell much insurance.

ReplyDelete1) The needs for the reader of this ad is mainly health insurance. The author wants every young U.S citizen secured with the right health-care opportunity.
ReplyDelete2)The values are having health-care and living safely and content like "Pajama Boy" in the picture above.
3)The attitude to me is a bit off because this is not what the young culture represents. You never see a young adult dressed in pajama's like that. Personally, I would of went in a whole different approach.
4) I believe the needs were met because any young teen who can read can tell that this ad represents health care, but overall no. I do not believe that this ad relates to health care or anything medical related. Like i said before I would of used a whole different type of approach.
(1) The needs of the reader of this ad is understanding of the new health insurance policies.
ReplyDelete(2) The author is targeting readers who put high value on intelligent, health, and young adults planning for their future.
(3) The attitude of the target audience is laid back. The author wants the reader to wear pajamas ( Does not matter the style) and drinking hot chocolate ( not coffee) has you talk about health insurance. This means the author wants the reader in a relaxed state of mind when the conversation begins. even the young guy in the picture is non threatening.
(4) I do not think was successful, It tries do to much with so little. The author wants the reader to start a conversation about health care, yet The author leave out where to get information about health care law..
1. The needs of the reader is to gain and discuss health insurance in an easy, relaxed manner.
ReplyDelete2. The values this ad is targeting are the laziness of people in their late teens and early twenties who are interested in obtaining health insurance.
3. The attitudes of the audience are a sense of self entitlement, relaxed, and knowledgeable. The ad displays a website, implying that the audience has a basic knowledge in using the internet, rather than a telephone number. The ad also depicts a man wearing pajamas and enjoying a hot beverage. This image symbolizes how easy it is to sign up for Obama's health insurance.
4 This ad was meets the criteria since it shows where people can go if they have any questions about health insurance; it depicts a young adult, so the ad specifies the targets. As for values and attitudes, the ad was not on target since it depicts young people as lazy people who are still living at their mother's house, rather than having a job.
